WHO WE ARE

Renaud Chabrier faisant une présentation

- Renaud Chabrier -

Engineer, researcher and director, Renaud works at the intersection of scientific inquiry and visual communication.

He’s led drawing projects with Institut Curie, Arte, CNRS Images, and École Polytechnique, always at the point where scientific rigor meets visual storytelling.

He has conceived the DI-Lab as a new kind of studio: one where science and craft are considered equal.

Alice brings a rare dual background in graphic arts and life sciences, currently completing a master’s in ecosystem biodiversity.

She joined Renaud in 2024 and leads everything biology-related, from research and documentation to art direction.

Together, they founded the DI-Lab in 2026.

- And many others -

DI-Lab’s work benefits from a wide range of expertise in music, animation, voice acting, development, and many others.

We prioritise local partnerships in Strasbourg, a key European hub, whilst also drawing on the expertise of researchers from around the world.

WHAT WE DO

Consulting and R&D

When researchers and companies face a representation challenge, we engage in dialogue and investigate to find the most appropriate solution.

We work together to develop representations that clarify complex ideas and, when necessary, invent new methods for doing so.

Print, animated, and interactive images

We adapt drawing to a wide range of contexts:

article illustrations, animated sequences, complete short films, museum installations…

Our references guarantee high-quality results.

Science for everyone

Situated at the crossroads of numerous disciplines, the DI-Lab design the next generation of science communication: rigorous, accessible, and built for audiences who aren’t necessary specialists.

Young people, general public, cross-disciplinary events. Science that travels.

OUR VALUES

As scientists, we observe that knowledge is circulating less and less effectively. As artists, we understand that this problem is linked to a lack of mastery of visual tools.

For several centuries, an immense effort in representation helped build a shared scientific culture. Since traditional techniques have been abandoned in science education, this work is no longer being carried out: newcomers are left disoriented, and experts are isolated.

With Drawing Intelligence, we address the problem at its root: since drawing is the most universal tool for laying the groundwork for a discussion, and since discussion today is shaped through digital tools, how can we combine the best of both worlds? For that, we can count on several landmarks:

Low tech / High tech

We believe that modern and traditional technologies should not be set against each other: drawings on paper form the foundation of our work, while digital tools bring them to life on screen.

Science and Art

For us, science is not a pretext for making art, nor is art a pretext for doing science.

Art is fully integrated into our research process, as it provides the subtlety needed to represent the most compelling phenomena.

Accessibility

The world is more connected than ever, yet disciplines tend to become compartmentalized.

Our productions act as bridges between novices and experts across different fields, fostering dialogue around today’s challenges.

Sustainability

We aim to produce work that is precise, reliable, and resilient to the constant evolution of science.

To achieve this, we devote significant time and effort to sourcing and verifying all of our information.
